NAMI or National Alliance for the Mentally Ill functions nationwide both as support groups and advocacy groups on behalf of individuals with mental illness.  NAMI Siouxland is an independent citizens’ association affiliated with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and NAMI of Iowa.  There are no ties to government or other agencies.

Our chapter has been responsible for assisting in the education of local police, service clubs, educational leaders, and distributing educational materials to the hospitals and doctors.   We also support Friendship House, a social club for adults with mental illness, through assisting with fund raising and grant writing, and for social opportunities such as an annual picnic and holiday parties.

Future Projects

NAMI Siouxland will have volunteers trained as instructors in the educational programs developed by NAMI. Training expenses will be provided. If you are interested in being a trained volunteer instructor please contact a NAMI Siouxland Officer. Email links are on the bottom of this page.

NAMI offers several educational programs. Our local priority is to first provide Family-to-Family and Visions for Tomorrow. Other educational programs currently offered include Peer-to-Peer and Provider Programs for Mental Health Workers and Professionals.

Visions for Tomorrow is an educational program for people who are raising children and adolescents who have behaviorial disorders or mental illness.

Family-to-Family is a twelve-week course for family members and significant others of persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
