THERAPY

DIALECTICAL
BEHAVIORAL
THERAPY
(DBT)
DBT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that is specifically designed to help individuals with problems related to chronic suicidality and self-harm. This form of therapy is well known for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder but works well for other problems as well.
SUBSTANCE
ABUSE COUNSELING
Substance abuse counseling is designed to help people move from active addiction to recovery. At SMHC, we take a dual recovery approach to addictions, mindful of the role that mental illness plays in addiction and recovery.
TRAUMA-FOCUSED COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is a form of therapy used to help adolescents and children work through the trauma(s) that they have experienced. The therapist helps the child with his/her thoughts, emotions, relaxing experiences, and coping skills prior to working directly with the trauma. Children and parents learn new skills to help them process their thoughts and feelings related to the trauma.
ART THERAPY
Art therapy uses the creative process combined with therapeutic techniques to help clients solve conflicts. Art therapy is available to clients of all ages.
INTEGRATIVE TREATMENT OF COMPLEX TRAUMA FOR ADOLESCENTS CHILDREN (ITCT)
ITCT is also a form of therapy that helps adolescents and children work through traumatic experiences. ITCT is an assessment-driven treatment that addresses complex trauma by utilizing a variety of treatment strategies.
EYE MOVEMENT
DESENSITIZATION& REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EDMR is an evidence-based treatment approach that is an option to be used for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EDMR works by using both sides of the brain to help reprocess distressful memories. This is called bilateral stimulation. EMDR is composed of cognitive grounding and restructuring of stressful memories.
DENIAL MANAGEMENT COUNSELING (DMG)
DMC is designed to use with clients who are unaware of their problems or may be in denial of their problems. DMC helps the clients recognize their denial patterns and work through them in order to take steps towards recovery from addiction as well as other problems.
