The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive- compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders. There are more than 1,200 local NAMI affiliates around the US, our local affiliate is NAMI Siouxland

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) website provides information from the Federal agency that conducts and supports research on mental illnesses. There is information on many different mental illnesses. SMHC highly recommends this site for information on mental illness.
SAMHSA’s National Mental Health Information Center
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Mental Health Information Center provides information about mental health via a toll-free telephone number (800-789-2647), their web site and more than 200 publications. The National Mental Health Information Center was developed for users of mental health services and their families, the general public, policy makers, providers, and the media.
